Question about teeth grinding?

Long story short. Had pain in top left teeth area, then it jumped to top right area. Assumed I had to get 2 root canals. Went to dentist told him my symptoms. Said it sound like I%26#039;m grinding my teeth at night but doens%26#039;t know for sure until he views my x-rays. I have a feeling it is teeth grinding bc last night I had pains on top left teeth and now bottom left. 2 questions. 1. is that normal teeth grinding symptoms, having my pain jump all over? 2. if I end up having to sleep with a mouth guard, won%26#039;t I still be grinding causing pain in my mouth but not harming my teeth?

Question about teeth grinding?
It is possible that your grinding could affect different teeth. It usually seems to stay on one side, but I%26#039;m sure there could be some that don%26#039;t. Wearing a night guard will not stop the clenching/grinding, but it will keep you from putting total forces in one area. You will slide on the smooth plane of the appliance. I wear one, I still wake up some mornings with an area that seems more tender, but it goes away quickly. I%26#039;m a big proponent of grinding appliances. I think they really save you from major dental problems later on......if you wear them of course.. Good luck.

The ones made for you will work better than the ones bought in the store.
Reply:it%26#039;s normal to grind your teeth at night but it%26#039;s not good my mom does it so do my friends i don%26#039;t know how to make it stop for sure but it%26#039;s pretty normal
Reply:I was reading up on the grinding a few months ago and bought a mouthpiece but it pretty much drives me nuts to have it in my mouth. I did read however, that things like caffeine (and alcohol?) increase grinding. It may be better to work on relaxation techniques to reduce tension in your jaw. i know I have a habit throughout the day of holding tension in my jaw and sort of %26#039;grimacing%26#039;. Try to become aware of the muscles there and then try to work out a way to let them relax
Reply:I had problems with my TMJ from clenching my jaw and grinding my teeth at night. My dentist made me a mouth guard that fits only on my two top front teeth. This keeps my teeth from touching therefore preventing me from grinding my teeth and clenching my jaw. I sleep a lot better now and don%26#039;t wake up with headaches anymore. It takes a little while to get use to the piece, but it eventually becomes second nature to put it in.
Reply:you can buy a night guard at wallmart for about 18 dollars, yeah i know that%26#039;s kind of expensive, but i do the same thing and it also helps with overbite.

hope you find somting that works!
