Teeth Grinding?

How Do You Stop From Grinding Your Teeth? I Do It Most Of The Time In The Middle Of The Night. And Dureing The Day To But Not As Bad. Then I Get A Bad Migrane Headack. And It Feels Like My Cheeks Are Swolen. Its Like I Can Almost Hear A Crunching Sound. I Just Had All Of My Teeth Done. And Paid Alot Of Money To Have It Done To.

Teeth Grinding?
well i know during the night,u can get like a teeth gaurd,it%26#039;s like a plastic thing that goes over your teeth,my mom had one,and she does%26#039;nt grind her teeth any more

Reply:You can buy a plastic mouth guard to keep you from grinding your teeth.
Reply:have your dentist fit you with a mouth gaurd to wear at night......I grind my teeth at night when I am stressed out so that may be some of it too....
Reply:A tooth guard will keep you from grinding. But the real cause is usually anxiety, get to the root of it and take steps to alleviate it.
Reply:see your dentist about a mouth guard you can buy one otc but its better if you get one from your dentist
Reply:Bruxism or grinding esp. at night. Consult with your dentist ASAP before it becomes worse like TMD. More than likely he will fabricate a nightguard or biteguard for you. Sometimes this procedure is covered by your dental insurance plan.
Reply:There is no medical cure for bruxism...however, there are treatments available to you through your dentist. The most popular is a night guard. This is a piece of plastic that is molded to fit your mouth. All it takes is a visit to the dentist for impressions and in a week or two you will have your appliance.

The night guard acts like a pillow for your jaw. You will still grind your teeth, but you will not damage them or your jaw. Your headaches should diminish and you will not feel so tender.

That crunching sound could very well be your TMJ. This is where your Maxilla and Mandible come together. This is not uncommon with people who grind their teeth. Please have your TMJ checked by your dentist.

Now is the best time to get a night guard becuse the work on your teeth is complete. The reason is...if you were still having work done and were fitted for a night guard, as soon as you had more work done the night guard would most likely not fit anymore. This would mean after every procedure your night guard would have to be adjusted.

You also mentioned that you tend to grind your teeth during the day. The only suggestion I have for you reguarding that is, try to pay attention to it. When you realize why you are grinding or when you are grinding it is easier to control it. When you catch yourself grinding ask yourself why and see if you notice a pattern. This may help you keep it under control, atleast a little.
Reply:I like Nicole%26#039;s answer. Here is some additional information about grinding your teeth and migraine headaches.

If you grind your teeth, you may be causing a headache that MIMICS true migraine. The top of your lower jaw bone slips too far back in the joint area and pinches off the blood flow of the temporal artery and this gives you muscle pain in exactly the same area that people get migraine headaches.

The classic test is to administer one of the ergot compounds to see how you respond. Today, maybe they would use one of the newer migraine-specific medications. If you have been through this or if you are in treatment and find no relief, I%26#039;d suggest that you get your TMJ and your bite checked by someone who knows what they are doing.
