I just started grinding my teeth. Does anyone have any suggestions on how i can stop grinding my teeth? I only do it while i am sleeping. I just started wearing braces last April.
Teeth grinding??
Grinding teeth during orthodontic treatment is common and, in fact, it is expected. You can%26#039;t get a mouth guard made or it will defeat the purpose of getting braces. You might try a store-bought mouth guard with the approval of your orthodontist, but as long as you have no pain or anything, just forget about it.
Reply:You need to see your dentist and get a mouth guard made.
Reply:Migable speaks the truth. :)
Reply:Grinding of the teeth is a symptom of TMJ you can go to this web site to find out more info-http: //www.tmj.org/ You also need to talk with your orthodontist ASAP to have them give you a mouth piece, which is made to put over you teeth while your sleeping to stop you from literately grinding your teeth down to nothing. Which would then be futile to have spent all that money on braces.
Reply:It is very much stress related. There is something called night guard.your dentist has to take impressions of your teeth.Send them to lab. They will make a tray.It will fit to your mout perfectly.Every night after brushing your teeth, you put the tray in your mouth and sleep with it.So when you grind your teeth, there won%26#039;t be any damage done to your teeth. It will protect you from grinding your teeth away.In the morning you take the tray out.Wash it and put it away for the night.
Reply:You need to talk to your dentist about making you a nightguard, this will help you to not grind away your teeth.
Reply:well as you said that there is no pain or discomfort on waking up that suggests its not a tmj problem and as you have started wearing braces thats why there is stress generated onto the teeth and that causes grinding of teeth when you are sleeping so try some relaxation exercises that will be of help and avoid stress as much as possible.
Reply:worry adout it after your braces are off
